Bolandcycletour day 8 – Langeberge, Swellendam

The route for Monday 23 February 2026

A long, remote and undulating road. Today we leave the ocean behind and travel upwards and inwards. I love it. As featured on many of our Audax rides. There is very little on this road, even little shade. John may capture a few silhouettes of tired riders along the route. We must be mindful of traffic, as there is some construction in the area, with new wind farms being erected for clean power generation. So, as always, kindly keep to the left. And aim for the Langeberge in the distance as we approach Swellendam. The last 10kms before town is on the N2 national road, with a big wide yellow line on either side – but we stick to the LEFT.

💦 2x Suggested water points at:

  • 36kms at the top of Kruispad
  • 65kms at the Cloeteskraal turn
  • or as close as practical
  • on the left hand side o/t road

For the next two night we stay at Aan de Oever & Eike in Swellendam

Aan de Leisure Collection has a variety of establishments in Swellendam and we take up 2x venues across from each other in the main road. Aan de Oever Guesthouse is located on the banks of the Koornlands river, at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains. Aan de Oever is a house built in the Cape Dutch style, an iconic style in historic Swellendam, the third oldest magisterial district in the Cape. Aan de Eike Guesthouse is a four-star guest house, with eighteen modern furnished bedrooms is perfect for a one night stopover, or cycling group!

Two nights in Swellendam!

Welcome to your base for the next two nights. PS, on the next version of the Bolandcycletour we will make use of the 2-nights-per-venue model as far as possible, as it make for less admin and logistics, easier on the support crew and easier on the riders. And it creates rider comfort and familiarity. Also, Swellendam is a lovely town and has lots to do. Tomorrow is an optional rider for those who want to take part and join Nico for an out-and-back climb for milkshake in Barrydale. While John B will be there to capture the dramatic scenery of the Tradouws pass. Or chat to Carinus about a casual hike in the pristine mountains. Dinners will be 🍔 Burger night & Potjiekos (and a chance to meet ride captain Hanlie’s parents as they are from Swellendam).
