Bolandcycletour day 7 – Kassiesbaai, Arniston

Short route for Sunday 22 February 2026

One of the flattest days. Zig-zag inland and back to the coast. We leave the fisherman’s cottage of Struisbaai behind to head to the Arniston seaside cottages. Looking at the aerial view of the route for today you can see we go V for VIA Bredasdorp. Turn right onto the R316 heading back to the coast at Arniston. Yes, Arniston and Waenhuiskrans are two names for the same, charming seaside village, used interchangeably. The latter is the original name (directly translated as ‘wagon house cliff’) after a large local sea cave, which you may visit on foot in the afternoon.

  • 💦 30kms into the ride you will find our only water point for the day, located as we turn right from the R319 onto the R316. John B Swart, our resident movie star, will have the 🌳 Boomhuis stationed under the trees on the left hand side of the road opposite the 🎾 tennis courts in Bredasdorp.
  • Anyone taking a (gravel) shortcut and skipping Bredasdorp will not pass the water point and will not have a support vehicle or ride captain or Lorenzo behind them in case something happens.

Tonight we all stay at the Arniston Seaside Cottages

Arniston Seaside Cottages offers charming self-catering accommodation in the peaceful coastal village of Arniston. The cottages are nestled beside a 120-year-old fishing community and surrounded by nature reserves and pristine, unspoilt beaches. The village has been named one of the best coastal destinations in the world, and it remains a favourite hideaway for those seeking calm, natural beauty. Our 3-star graded cottages offer a variety of unit sizes, from intimate studios to spacious cottages and inter-leading layouts that can accommodate up to 80 guests.

In the afternoon

Suggested afternoon activity when we arrive in Arniston and after you have checked in would be to stroll down to the Waenhuiskrans caves. It is a 2.2kms walk from our accommodation and should take about 30mins at a relaxed pace, one way, depending on your speed.

As for breakfast tomorrow morning, we dine at 7am at the Arniston hotel for a buffet breakfast before tackling the long road to Swellendam. It is a short 250m bicycle ride down to breakfast and by know you already know where the hotel is, but incase you don’t, here are the directions. Please have your 🧳 luggage ready in the communal area for our team to load.

  • 1pm est. arrival and snacks
