Tourdeboland newsletter and rider update
The first of our two tours started this week and pictured above was their first coffee stop along the route. The riders have enjoyed the sights and sounds of the veld while seeing 4 out of the Big Five animals while on safari. Can you name them all? In case you were wondering, it is the Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo. And we got to see all but the Leopard. PS, there is also the Beautiful Five, which includes the Zebra, Giraffe, Springbok, one other animal, and last but not least, Max, our friendly tour guide in the park 🙂
🫒 Onto YOUR tour, day 3
Which start in Cape Town on Sunday 2 March, where we go to Melkbos and then onto Riebeek Valley. Tourdeboland Day 3 takes us south to Wellington, flat as a pancake, and then the opposite of that up our favourite side of Bainskloof Pass, to end the day in Tulbagh at the Cape Dutch Quarters. And if you feel like cycling afterwards, our friendly host Jason can do a historical town walk.
🧭 Day 4 – the magical one
Tourdeboland Day 4 is our long-short day – its either ‘straight’ through the Slanghoek Valley to Goudini, or you may opt for a detour, along with your ride captain of choice, to either the top of Mitchell’s Pass or Bains’s backside, or both haha. The latter is however no laughing matter, as it would take you close to 200kms and a hell of a lot of climbing. Only for the brave.
Finish off with braai night at Goudini Spa, with plenty of relaxation around their springs. Cottages, and bungalows, each to its own room please.
🗺️ Tourdeboland 2025 GPX files
Whether you are using a trusty old Etrex, or a modern Garmin, or the the quick-and-easy (and ever so accurate with the altitude Wahoo), or any other bicycle navigation device for that matter – here are the Tourdeboland 2025 route files for download and sharing to your favourite trip computer: https://ridewithgps.com/collections/3001149
PS, Carinus is our route master for TDB and note the updates to the course on Tourdeboland day 1 as we do not go through the Port of Cape Town but stick to the bicycle lanes to go North up the West Coast.
