Bolandcycletour post ride survey results for 2026
Many thanks not only to our participants but also to everyone who completed the post ride survey for after Bolandcycletour 2026. These are the results, summarized, based on the dozen+ metrics which were evaluated. We appreciate your time. And we have already made changes to the route and format for 2027. Tell your mates. Route details for next year will go live be the end of this week. TLDR: in short – more days per venue, fewer restaurant dinners, and more off the bike staff as riders generally prefer solo vs group riding.
- Safety: ‘highways’ vs R for regional roads; and indicate in advance when there will be no shoulder
- Waterpoints: these were great but suggested individual wrapping, packets etc; plus a combo of coffee stops and cafés
- Dinners: use fewer restaurants and rather more outside catering like in and have some DIY evenings at own discretion
- Overnights: 2 nights per town so one day is a transfer stage and one is a circular route for familiarity and less travel admin
- Staff: more off the bike staff to tend to the little things; ride captains definitely added value but there can be fewer
- Info: on the website, on the whatsapp group, with a timeline, and a ride bible – plus a large scale area map during happy hour*
- Locals: polarized opinions even though most participants liked the fresh energy; rather avoid in future, have to be there from the start
- Start times: were perfect for all except a single suggestions for much later starts around 9am but that eats into the day
- Aquila: (or similar game drive safari experience); brilliant and essential for anyone coming to sunny SA especially for the first time
- Routes: skip the short windy Arniston day altogether; and ensure GPX files and WP distances are exact to the very last meter
- Accommodation: was great and the historical buildings were preferred; just give a heads-up in advance if shared bathrooms
- Light lunches: were welcome and the boerewors rolls and pies were popular; but add more salty snacks and fresh fruit and veg
- Happy hours: more formal, more non-alcoholic beverage options; suggestions for cheese & crackers & expensive local wines
- Lowlights: need a more formal happy hour; manage expectations; and the 1 uncalled BAC member comment was mentioned
- Highlights: 3 weeks of cycling, the big five safari experience, CTCT, costal routes, scenery, gateway to Africa, value-for-money
