This review is for the Boland Cycle Tour (2 weeks) which joined the Tour de Boland for the final, 3rd week. I’ve done dozens of cycle tours all around the world and this was one of the absolute best ones. The area is lovely to cycle through, the staff was great, food and accommodations were top notch. Post ride activities were planned for most days that were excellent. Topping it all off was doing the Cape Town Cycle Tour, and having ridden the prior past 3 weeks got you in great shape for the event.

Tour De Boland provided an unforgettable experience! The diverse group, scenic routes, and well-organized event created a unique camaraderie. Despite varying abilities, the ride was inclusive. I have been on most of the Tours in March for several years now. The size of the tour since inception have varied from as many as 40 to 7 cyclists on tour. The tours, people, cycle routes, destination accommodation have always been unique, affordable, and more than satisfying. The Tour has never been a race, but dependant on your requirements Nico & Carinus have always managed to make it work for various needs. We have always cycled in groups of different abilities and pace. Food stops, on route drinks and nourishment, back up vehicles and even massages (dependant on budgets) are always included. The hospitality and destinations we have covered through the years have made me appreciate our beautiful country even more. We are a special breed in RSA and seeing our glorious country by bicycle is simply special.

I’ve ridden with Tour de Boland six times on various tours. I’ve done other multi-day stage tours around the Cape but none as enjoyable as TdB. The pace is relaxed and non-competitive and the company is great. I’ve met people who have become friends off the bike as well as on. The accommodation is top-notch – my favourite is the Hornbill in Hermanus – and we always eat well. My plant-based diet is catered for without (detectable) complaint. The whole experience is a lot of fun. Nico & Carinus are flexible and accommodating and the tours are well supported. You can jump in the support vehicle if you need a break and rejoin the group when you are ready. If you want to see the beautiful Cape from the saddle and experience some great cycling at a manageable pace, Tour de Boland tours are for you.
