Top 20 improvements and suggestions

Just like this elephant on a mission above, we also do take note and (try to) never forget… Thanks so much for every rider’s valuable feedback to date – after all, it is you who make the tour. Herewith our top twenty notes (and counting), gathered from anecdotes and listening to your suggestions, incl. the final braai at Nic & Astrid’s, on what we believe we can improve for the next round. What can we add on here to fit your cycle tour needs better, both on and off the bike?

  1. Gift pack on arrival — with something small from us to riders to enhance our brand and consider daily note on pillow.
  2. Meet and greet — AA meeting introductions on first dinner so that everyone gets to know their fellow riders and team members.
  3. Uniform look — implement a uniform look for all staff member off the bike including branded golf shirts and vehicle stickers.
  4. Head and taillights — ensure all riders have same for increased visibility (Paul swears by the Garmin Varia system and Carinus was part of the team who developed it).
  5. Tour mascot — introduce a revolving elephant soft toy or similar for a rider faux pass or humorous moments.
  6. Last supper — host the final dinner in Franschhoek on Friday, including a rewards and fines meeting where the whole team is present.
  7. Drinks cashbox — implement a square-up honesty box each night and guests must bring along cash for this purpose.
  8. Waterpoints — provide a variety of energy bars, fresh fruit, more savoury treats, and 2-liter Cokes at waterpoints.
  9. Reduce footprint — Enduren-branded bottles in welcome pack, for refill from large water containers.
  10. Note to self — buying in bulk from Makro upfront saves both money and the environment, vs convenience store drain.
  11. Lunch — offer snacks and sandwiches and more savoury choices, and add a daily South African theme (koeksisters, samoosas, etc)
  12. Lunchbox with compartments per rider — details to be discussed by the team ito options and practicality.
  13. Dinners — include more fresh breads and salad for filling meals, and have a plan B for vegetarian/spitbraai options (sorry Jen!)
  14. Breakfast — implement a coffee reminder/stop, and have a wider variety on days we need to cater ourselves.
  15. Mark said — waterproofing for trailer and aim for a cleaner chain of command for on/off the bike duties.
  16. Daily bike service — provide an optional daily bike clean+check, using a paid for service from a local local bike shop.
  17. Afternoon activities — offer client book+pay in advance for optional extras such as massages, recovery, etc.
  18. Pin locations — include set waterpoints locations in the downloadable GPX route files in advance.
  19. Hold your line — ensure sweepers on bicycles are audible with bells and avoid sneaking up on people.
  20. Safety briefing — how do you feel about further enhancing safety? We will mention animals and people and cars.
