Dear riders,
🍷 The first two days, where we ride, eat and sleep
We’re excited to have you on board the 2025 Tour de Boland (not so express) – an unforgettable (we believe) cycling journey through a beautiful part of the Western Cape! As we approach the start, here’s a few things you need to know for Sunday and Monday.
⚽ Sunday 2nd March 2025
On Sunday, at noon (yes, noon) we kick off from Cape Town (Football) Stadium, riding up the coast to Melkbosstrand via Milnerton and Bloubergstrand, along the bikelane – en route we’ll stop way too often for a few pics, a pitstop, and getting to know each other in a most relaxed way.
🚴♀️ Monday 3rd March 2025
We stay at the Atlantic Beach Hotel, and we dine early at Damhuis Restaurant – a short walk / ride or shuttle from the hotel. Next morning, hotel breakfast, usually around 7, with a departure around 0830 (pack a snack).
We’ll visit Philadelphia and Kalbaskraal for snacks and pitstops, well-spaced in distance and time in the saddle – we will also split the group into 2 or 3 pelotons depending on comfort and speed levels. Each group will be led by one of us, Nico, Carinus Paul and Lorenzo.
Malmersbury will be a busy little town, and we will ride through nicely, before hitting the vineyards of the Swartland en route to the only climb of the day, the Botmaskloof – please stop at the top! Exquisite views. If you need a boost of energy, there are a few shops in Riebeek Kasteel, a mere 5-7 kms before our destination in RIEBEEK WES – don’t get confused.
We should all be in between 12 and 1400 – relax in the garden, by the pool, or on your own at Riebeek Valley Hotel, where we’ll enjoy a relaxed supper around 1830.
👚 Clothing bank
Do you have any old cycling kit, jerseys, helmets, shoes, bibs – or even an old bicycle lying around? Instead of throwing it into the bin, drop it off with us at the start of the tour so that we can distribute it to the local cycling community who will be ever so grateful for your contribution. Let’s get more people in the saddle!
🚙 Support team
Oh, Mark and John are our vehicular backup team – they carry bags, food water, and people, as you wish to use them. Plus, any niggles and needs will be addressed by all and any of us – it normally takes a day or two for us all to find our feet.
See you soon,
Team Tourdeboland
